For this week’s Coffee 101 session we will talk about the difference between Decaf and Regular Coffee

First of what is a Decaf coffee???
Decaf is short for Decaffeinated which means removing 97% of the caffeine in the beans before it is roasted. The process of making a decaf coffee uses water, organic solvents and carbon dioxide.
Coffee beans is soaked in the solvent until the caffeine is removed then the solvent is removed. Another Process is called the Swiss Water Process which uses carbon dioxide and charcoal filters to remove the caffeine.
Technically Decaf and Regular coffee’s nutritional content is the same apart from the caffeine content (ulit, ulit? Charot!) Although, taste and smell become milder and sometimes the color may also change depending on the process used to decaffeinate the beans.
Decaf vs Regular Coffee
Basically, its hard to really determine which is better since this question is very subjective and depends on the persons’ preference. However, there are several things that we can consider when deciding which suits us better.
If your purpose for drinking coffee is to get stimulated or be awake then Decaf may not be for you since there is roughly around 3% of caffeine in the beans. This will definitely negate the purpose of drinking coffee.
If you prefer a less bitter and pungent smell then you can consider going Decaf
On the other hand, if you’re like me who looooves (dapat madaming O para intense) the smell and taste of Coffee (kung pwede lang gawing pabango ang kape, ginawa ko na) then you can consider sticking with regular coffee
Pregnant women and individuals who experience heartburn's, stomach ulcers, chronic headaches or acid re flux should also consider switching to Decaf to limit the caffeine intake
Decaf might also suit individuals who are suffering from sleep problems, anxiety or panic attacks as high caffeine can aggravate anxiety symptoms and can sometimes mimic a feeling of panic (yung feeling mo pag nakita mo si crush tas pinansin ka niya, eeeee!!😆)
In the end, the decision is still up to you whether you prefer decaf or regular coffee.
Nevertheless, always remember that coffee is a dehydrate so a rule of thumb is to drink an extra glass of water every after your coffee beverage.
